Winter Conference 2009
Wednesday, January 28 - Saturday, January 31, 2009
Greensboro, NC
YAMiA will host several important workshops this year and we encourage you to find a way to be there! Bring your team or send someone in your place if you can't be there personally.
If funding is a concern, consider volunteering for a reduced rate.
From the AMiA website: In previous years, Winter Conference volunteers were assumed to be conference participants and paid full registration fees. This year, however, we want to demonstrate our appreciation for volunteers and have developed a sliding scale for registration fees based on the number of hours that these individuals volunteer. Volunteers can take advantage of all conference sessions when they are not scheduled to work.

Youth Culture
The Rev Jack Gabig, Ph.D
Jack Gabig has been involved in youth and young adult ministries in the U.S.
and U.K. for more than 23 years. He is a graduate of Trinity School for
Ministry in Pittsburgh (M.Div. 1995), and completed his Ph.D. research at
King's College, London (2007), looking at the role of popular culture in the
religious lives of American teenagers. He is currently the Director of the
Young Anglicans Project, encouraging a rethinking of the nature of Christian
Education in Anglican churches in America. Additionally, he is a faculty
member of both Trinity and Nashotah House Anglican Seminaries. Jack and his
wife Patty have been married for 19 years and live in Pittsburgh, PA.
What do we leave them with?
Sheryl Curbow-Shaw
Sheryl is the Youth & Missions Pastor at New Covenant Anglican Church and on the CORE Team of Youth Specialties. Her love for students and her heart for missions has kept her working in these areas for 24 years. She has traveled extensively around the world teaching and leading others in both missions training and youth training. Connecting with the body of Christ around the world, watching lives change, seeing miracles and just being part of God's story... I love it! Eating a slug? I could have skipped that part.
Technology and Youth Ministry
Paul Martin
Paul has served in youth ministries across the United States for the past 15 years. He has a bachelors degree in commercial music and a masters degree in music education and served as a band director for four years before moving into full time youth ministry. Paul uses his passion for music and Christ to reach teens where they are to build connections that reach beyond most teen's time in youth ministry. He currently serves at St. Peter's Anglican Church in Birmingham, AL where he helps teens and families grow in their faith by leading worship and discipling the people of that church.
The First Two Years in Youth Ministry
Curt Solomon
Curt Solomon is director of youth at The Church of the Apostles in Raleigh, North Carolina. "Fun for me is spending time in the woods with my dogs. In the "Old Days," a horse would have accompanied me, but more recently, I'm as pleased as pie swinging in my backyard in a big hammock."
